Computer Compatibility Problems and The Laundrettes

[edited from original posting of 8/26]

I'm getting just a little (grrr...) frustrated that I'm still not able to post my 1982 article (yes, it does exist)... (and no I still haven't overcome my network incompatibility (and other) challenges.... so I haven't been able to scan it yet. Hence, no post.

So... to pass the time, I've posted an excerpt from a Washington Post article from the same year. (I hope some of you have had the chance to read the whole thing!)

Townshend, Before He Grows Old
Article available at the link post above.

Lucy, I JUST read this same article the other day LOL.

I'm always worried about violating copyright (just ask Del) and at least can tell you this much. Putting up the whole article does violate it. But if you just post one paragraph/abstract from what you are copying and add the link to it so others can read the whole article, it falls under *Fair Use*, which does not violate copyright law.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Lucy, that was a fun read.
What blows me away is that Pete was 37 at the time of the writing of that story...and I'm 37 now. I'm beginning to think my own personal dreams of rock stardom are pretty much over. Took me long enough to figure that out didn't it? Oh well, It was fun trying. It's good to see that Pete did survive where so many other didn't too. I'm so glad he was one of the one's who as he said "made it to the other side". He still has a lot to give us I'm sure.

Thanks for posting ... a good read

Hi Lace. Yeah, I know a bit about copyright too but am far from an expert. Thanks!

The thing is, posting a link wouldn't've (? new word?) done much good, as the actual content is non-accessible from anyone not signed in to that particular database I was in. oooh! Self-incrimination.

So... what I'll do (now that a good, fair, five people have read it) is remove the content (and leave you screaming, "but wh...!!??") because I've not yet hit the 24-hour permissions deadline. It's OK to post full non-permissioned content for less than 24 hours and have not more than 5 and a half people respond (including the poster). Never heard of this obscure copyright law? Is 24 hours too short? I could make it 48.

Meanwhile, I'll go read some more fun articles! hee hee... just kidding. No, really, I did find TONS. No wonder I'm sleep-deprived.

Seriously, if I find another really, really interesting one, I'll post an excerpt. And only an excerpt. In fact I may even change the facts a bit. JUST KIDDING!

(Can't wait to post that durn Chicago Sun-Times unscanned-as-of yet article....)

(Apologies: I've been reading too much Graham Chapman this afternoon)

(oh, and that's a great audio link -- I'm listening right now...)

RE: the audio interview... cute. Pete doesn't consider himself a guitarist. Doesn't do "guitar talk."

I used to have that cover of the Rolling Stone pic on my school file. I think I still have it somewhere in my very, very, very old Who scrapbook that I started when I was about 12 years old - I still keep it for memories sake.

I'd just like to add that I'm sorry for having made this entry so high-maintenance. I really *do* know better (that's the sad part) and will be more diligent in the future!

Humbly, and with no excuse ... and feeling silly and stupid,
L.

No apology necessary Lucy. Best always to post a link with a blurb about what you are linking to. Good rule of thumb for ALL of us to remember.
