The Who - Behind Blue Eyes

to be hated.. to be fated.. to telling only lies..

This is one of my favorite Who songs. Always has been.

Yes, what a great song. One of the first songs I learned to play as a little kid too. It's so great the way it turns from being such a beautiful ballad into such a fiery inferno. It sends me from a gentle state of mind to wanting to punch a hole through a wall. I love it!

Yes. As a teenager this certainly used to constantly inspire me. I was thinking for this blog...question about how each of us "discovered" The Who for ourselves. I love these kinds of stories as I am sure each one of us has a unique take on their initiation into their music. For me..the story goes like this: I was about 12 years old..on the cusp of adolescents and feeling very confused and angry. I remember my friend's father had an apartment in town and we used to sneak out from boarding school and gate crash his apartment by climbing in through his kitchen window. The father was never around so it used to be the ideal crash base for us. One day we - my friend Sharon and I - were going through his records (vinyl - woo hoo) and I came across the Quadorphenia album with all the pictures and the sleeve story. I put the record on and remember getting goose bumps just listening to the beginning with the sounds of the piano playing over the sound of a stormy sea. The lyrics BLEW ME AWAY with their anger, relevance and beauty. After that Quod became my staple for EVERYTHING and a yard stick for all other musicians. I became a WHO freak! I used to go every month to the record shop and buy my next Who album with the little pocket money that was giving to me. Talk about dedication. Since then..Quod has always been my defining CD when I am feeling frustrated or needing to feel

Got cut off there....
Last sentence was meant to read:

Since then..Quod has always been my defining CD when I am feeling frustrated or needing to feel sublime.

How weird, just 4 short days later I posted a link to you tube on The Shout a message board I am on of this exact video. I said I believe this to be the best ever live version of BBE. I also said that that little black t-shirt Roger is wearing is quite inspiring too!!!!

Great minds certainly do think alike!

The song always gets me teary-eyed.

I'll probably be posting my first contribution to TOWHM sometime this weekend. I found an OLD Chicago Sun Times (Oct 82) article in my scrapbook and just need to get it scanned.

Look for it!

Sorry to say it's not going to happen this weekend after all. Look for it within a week to 10 days.... (I need to get a new computer first. :-( )

But I promise you, it'll be worth the wait.
